In 2004, BOTOX Cosmetic (Botulinum Toxin Type A) received FDA
approval for the temporary control of primary axillary hyperhidrosis.
BOTOX Cosmetic is a purified protein that can block the chemical
transmitters that activate nerve endings. BOTOX Cosmetic very
effectively blocks the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands.
Now,
excessive sweating can be dramatically reduced for many months
at a time with just a single treatment of several injections of
BOTOX Cosmetic into the areas that overproduce sweat.
Potential
side effects may include bruising, pain during the procedure, and
temporary localized muscle weakness. These side effects, if they
occur at all, are temporary and generally resolve quickly.
